Neil and Margie,
Mont St Michel, 2011

Margie and Neil have been riding their bikes together, and separately, for almost all of their lives. They made their first cycle touring trip to Tasmania around 2006, and have since toured France, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, the United KingdomEastern Canada and the Atlantic Coast of France to Budapest.

They both love the intimacy cycle touring brings with the land and the people. Margie is not a big fan of the hills, but struggles along, especially when Neil takes the heavy stuff out of her panniers.

There is always a trip in planning, and they are eyeing several new destinations for the next adventure.

Margie got her training wheels at an early age, and never looked back. Being a country girl, she rode to school from the very start, her little legs trying to keep up with her brothers on their big bikes. There was a bit of a lull in the teenage years where cycling was not cool, but she got over that, and has owned and ridden bikes her whole adult life.

Her proudest cycling achievements are riding through the Low Tatras (Poland/Slovak Rebublic) without expiring and climbing Alpe D’Huez (France, often climbed in Tour de France), not once, but two and a bit times.

Like Margie, Neil grew up riding bikes. In the school holidays, and on weekends, he used to head out all day on his bike, only coming back in the evening for dinner.

He likes to combine his love of cycling with some of his other great loves: wine, food and travel (and of course, Margie). He is the inspiration behind many of the trips, and the great motivator when the going is up.

He is the statistician, and can always quote distance, heart rate and power.

Neil has a Baum bike. Enough said.
