Dole
R&R in a pretty town
Today is about rest and the only thing we really do – besides rest – is take a wander around town following the directions of a bolshie little cat (who we name Tinkerbell after a dearly departed little bolshie cat I/we used to share a house with). Her directions are at times a little hard to keep track of, and there are the dreaded shortcuts (Ikea anyone?) so she leads us on a merry dance around town.
The trail is really called the Trail of the Perched Cat, named as a tribute to writer Marcel Aymé who was born and raised in Dole and has amongst his many works a novel, Les contes du chat perché (The Tales of the Perched Cat). Another notable child of this town is Louis Pasteur, a French chemist and microbiologist who is renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation, and pasteurisation.

We also run into a little bossy local who yells at us, flirts with us to make us follow her and then dashes off, after which there was an almighty cat row. We don’t see her again.
There is ice cream. And wine. Together they provide a perfect energy pick up to continue the day, which means walking to an another place and having another glass of rosé.
Here’s some of the sights from our journey with Tinkerbell.
